Bangladesh: Curfew Relaxed
Streets and markets bustled again in Bangladesh’s six largest cities, including the capital, Dhaka, as violent street protests subsided and the army-backed interim government temporarily suspended an indefinite curfew for 14 hours. The curfew was imposed Wednesday, after student-led anti-army protests at Dhaka University turned violent and spread across the country. Residents welcomed the temporary lifting. “We now have enough time to buy food and other essentials we badly need,” said Habibur Rahman, a schoolteacher in Dhaka.
